2024 around the world cultural food festival – Aug. 24

Oronoco Bay Park

Save the date and bring your appetite! The Around the World Cultural Food Festival returns to Old Town Alexandria, offering a diverse array of global cuisine, art, shopping, and live music. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Oronoco Bay Park, enjoy delicious food reflecting various cultures, with only one chef, restaurant, or food truck per country. Admission is free, with food and drinks available for purchase.

Women’s equality day power up concert – Aug. 25  

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts  

Celebrate Women’s Equality Day with a Power Up Concert at the Kennedy Center. This musical event highlights women’s leadership through performances by renowned artists like pianist and composer Marina Arsenijevic, indie-pop band BETTY, and Grammy-nominated a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock. Forces for change: Mary McLeod Bethune and black women’s activism – ongoing  

National Museum of African American History and Culture  

Discover the impact of Mary McLeod Bethune and other Black women activists at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The exhibit features 75 images, 35 artifacts, a multimedia film, an eight-foot-tall sculpture of Bethune, and interactive displays.
